In that system, a hydraulic system is connected to your brake pedal, so when you push on the brakes, it uses hydraulic fluid and mechanics to magnify the pressure you put in and turn it into braking power through the contact of brake pads on your rotors. When your car needs a brake fluid exchange, it’s because the brake fluid has degraded to the point where it can’t do its job as well as you need it to. It’s at that point that you should bring your car into our service center, where our certified technicians can clear out the old brake fluid and put in new brake fluid. They make sure the entire system is clear of the old, degraded fluid before putting in brand-new OEM brake fluid, and once that’s done, they test your brakes and then get your car back to you.
Hydraulic fluids need to be non-compressible to work their best, and water is a highly compressible fluid. That’s why your brake fluid doesn’t have a lot of water in it, and it’s why your brake fluid can get contaminated from water in the atmosphere. This means that, even if you don’t use your car as much, your brake fluid collects water contamination as it ages, which makes it work less effectively than it should. That’s why, about every 3 years, you need to exchange your brake fluid and get fresh new fluid for your brakes to use.
